We work with businesses and policymakers to facilitate trade in goods and services which can have significant impacts on improving production processes, optimising supply chains, and mitigating and adapting to climate change. 

Gender equality and women's empowerment are key drivers of sustainable trade and contribute significantly to inclusive growth and development.

At the Africa Trade Foundation, we are dedicated to promoting women's economic empowerment and leadership in the trade sector. We support women-owned businesses, facilitate access to markets and finance, and promote gender-inclusive trade policies. 

We assist governments and industries throughout the continent in developing and implementing green industrial and trade policies that promote sustainable manufacturing practices, renewable energy adoption, and resource efficiency. We also provide support and expertise in the formulation, negotiation, implementation, and monitoring of trade agreements that incorporate sustainability considerations, such as environmental standards and labour rights.

Supply chains play a critical role in driving sustainability. At the Africa Trade Foundation, we work closely with businesses to promote transparency, ethical practices, and responsible sourcing throughout the supply chain. We promote sustainable production and consumption patterns, with the aim of minimising environmental impacts, protecting human rights, and fostering fair trade practices. 

Globally, many countries are moving towards the adoption of low-carbon, resource-efficient and socially inclusive practices in light of net-zero targets.  At the Africa Trade Foundation, we work closely with businesses to enable them to navigate these changes and adopt practices that align with global best practices.

The blue economy, also referred to as the ocean economy, constitutes an important pillar of numerous African countries, especially the Small Island Developing States. At the Africa Trade Foundation, we empower businesses and governments to devise trade and investment strategies that make sustainable use of ocean resources while protecting the environment.

As sustainability gains greater prominence, there has been significant emphasis on the need to develop a circular economy to minimise waste and utilise existing resources. At the Africa Trade Foundation, we advise governments and the private sector on how to identify and leverage opportunities for reuse, repair, refurbishment and recycling along value chains.

The informal economy accounts for a significant share of Africa's economy and cross-border trade on the continent. The AfCFTA will have important ramifications for operators in the informal sector. In this regard, we advise governments and different institutions on how to ensure the equitable distribution of gains and losses and how to ensure that the informal sector also benefit from the Agreement.
